All of these words share the Greek root "phon," which relates to sound — yet it’s pronounced differently in every one. That’s because English is not purely phonetic, which your child certainly knows after years of trying to “sound it out.”
But English isn’t random, either. It’s morphophonetic.

Morphophonemia is a 12-week, one-on-one course that teaches students how English is built beneath the surface, and how meaning — not just sound — guides the structure of our language.

What “Morphophonetic” Means

“Morphophonetic” means that our language is largely built from chunks of meaning (“morphemes”) that you can learn to see inside words.

So even when the pronunciation isn’t immediately obvious, there are clues to what the word means hidden in plain sight.

In this class, students learn to see common (and perhaps uncommon) Greek and Latin “clues” embedded in our language, and to use them to read, pronounce, and understand unfamiliar words.

With this understanding, vocabulary that used to feel inaccessible stops being a barrier and starts being a secret weapon.

Designed with the dyslexic brain in mind, this course is also ideal for any student who wants to build a strong, sophisticated vocabulary — and the confidence that comes with it.

I do make students promise never
to publicly correct other people when
they pronounce words wrong.
Because no one likes that!
